Today we are finishing up the instruction so that the sisters can do project work tomorrow -- our last day. We finished looking at Access database and this afternoon will look at Yahoo Groups!

Bridget will go to Cape Coast Castle tomorrow and we will travel to Accra for shopping before we board our plane Saturday night to return to the USA. My the time has just flown by!

Today we put the finishing touches on our study of Excel. We have encouraged the sisters to read more in the book and learn more and they have been doing some interesting projects. We will next look at Access database program. This afternoon, we will look at Yahoo Groups.

Also, twelve sisters are beginning to take an online course with Sr. Margaret Gannon at Marywood. We looked at the WebCT site and distributed the books, so they will get started right away.

On Friday, we went to Kakum National Park and did the Canopy Walk. Wait till you see the pictures! On Sunday we went to Brenu Beach Resort in Elmina, not far from one of the famous slave castles. More pictures of "nuns having fun"!

This week we plan to finish up Excel and look at Access (database). Our Internet pursuits will include Library Resources and collaboration tools.

Today we are beginning our study of Excel. This afternoon, we will look at Blackboard, a program similar to WebCT used by some of the ASEC colleges.

Today we are completing our work with PowerPoint and the sisters are creating presentations about the history of their communities.

We were visited by Cardinal Turkson of Cape Coast who blessed the computer lab and had his picture taken with all of us.

This afternoon we will be working with WebCT.

Today we are doing more work with PowerPoint -- learning how to use the colorful templates and make global formatting changes. This afternoon, we will be taking a look at WebCT - a course management system that Marywood uses for distance learning.

There are complications with putting pictures on this journal, so Jen is putting them up here from America. Hopefully, they can add stories later.

On Friday, we said goodbye to Sr Fran. The sister-participants put on a wonderful program to bid her farewell and gave her gifts to remember them by.

On Saturday we went to Accra to shop in the Artisan's Market and to go to the airport where we picked up my sister, Bridget Burns and sent Fran back to the US. We will miss Fran, but are happy to have Bridget here. She will help out for the rest of the workshop.

Today, we began work with PowerPoint and this afternoon we will do more work with web searching.

-Kathleen

Today we are learning how to do various kinds of tabs while we wind up our session on MS Word. We will move on to other applications next week. This afternoon we will discuss advanced searching on the Internet.

Today is Fran's last day with us. We will be sad to see her go, but look forward to Bridget's arrival this weekend. Fran and I will make a brief excursion to Kakum Park this morning to do the Canopy Walk through the rain forest.

Kathleen

Today we are learning about page and paragraph formatting (margins, pagination, double spacing, indenting, etc.) We will be looking at e-mail functions this afternoon (managing folders, address book, signatures & stuff).

The weather here has been pretty steady: high 70s, overcast, nice breeze. Some of the sisters are really suffering in the cold (this is one of the coolest months of the year in Ghana).

Kathleen

Today the sisters are working on projects using Microsoft Word. This afternoon we will take a brief look at search engines and maybe do some work extending skills with e-mail. -Kathleen

I'm looking forward to arriving in Cape Coast this weekend, although I'm sorry that it means goodbye to Sister Fran. I hope that I can contribute to your journey through the internet and the computer!

Bridget

Here it is...I hope to keep it updated more frequently than Kathy's been able to email!
